Media Release

The Hawai’i Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a 32-year-old Hilo man who was reported missing on April 1.

Phillip “Kaipo” Pai was fishing with a friend in the area of Orrs beach in Waa Waa, Pāhoa, on a small island off shore. As Pai attempted to get back onto shore by jumping into a channel between the shore and island, he was washed under by large sets of waves. Hawaii County Fire Department made checks of the area but never located him.

Pai is described as Hawaiian, 5-foot-7, 175 pounds with short black hair, brown eyes and a tan complexion.
