Media Release (update)
A 51-year-old Kailua-Kona man who was arrested Sunday on suspicion of murder was released on that charge pending further investigation. Anthony Scott remains in police custody, however, for an unrelated charge.
On Friday (September 5) Scott was arrested for promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. He was released on bail that afternoon. One of the conditions of his release was that he could not possess drugs.
At 6:30 a.m. on Sunday (September 7) Kona Patrol officers responded to a report of a death by stabbing at a home on Alii Drive in North Kona. Upon arrival, police found one of the residents, 85-year-old John M. Scott, dead from an apparent stab wound. Detectives assigned to the Area II Criminal Investigations Section determined that Scott was stabbed at least once in the upper torso.
Police arrested his son, Anthony Scott, on suspicion of murder. He was also arrested for promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia.
At 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday (September 9), he was charged with violating terms of his release and is being held at the Kona Police cellblock. He was released on the murder and drug offenses pending further investigation.
Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for today (September 9) to determine the exact cause of John Scott’s death.
