MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Kona Juvenile Aid Section detectives arrested and charged an 18-year-old Waimea male with several offenses Sunday (March 7, 1999) in connection with a robbery that occurred last month in Hawi, North Kohala.

At 10:55 a.m., detectives charged Larell Grant, 18, with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and first-degree terroristic threatening. The suspect was being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Previously, police had arrested three male juveniles, two of them 17 and the other 16, who were released to the custody of their parents.

The February 28 robbery occurred when the caretaker of the home surprised two young males in the garage area.

The suspects allegedly threatened the victim’s life, took his wallet, which contained about $1,000 in cash, and fled on foot.

The victim later discovered that the home he was caring for had been burglarized, and that a derringer pistol was missing.
