The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Detective Bradley Freitas as “Officer of the Month” for February in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday (February 2) at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Freitas was honored for his leadership skills as the supervisor of the Special Enforcement Unit, which focuses on recurring problems in the Kona District.

Under Freitas’ leadership, the Special Enforcement Unit identified crime trends and the persons responsible for them by gathering intelligence from a variety of sources.

“Detective Freitas’ skills are not limited to one investigation, they are used on a daily basis to ensure the success of the Special Enforcement Unit,” said Sergeant William Souther, who nominated Freitas for the honor. “His achievements cannot be measured in a single incident, but are seen in the success of a unit. As a leader, he has exemplified the Hawai’i Police department’s core values of teamwork, integrity professionalism, compassion and community satisfaction.”

As “Officer of the Month,” Freitas is eligible to become “Officer of the Year.”

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawai’i.
