Media Release

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Officer Coley Rowe as “Officer of the Month” for October in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday (October 1) at Huggo’s restaurant in Kailua-Kona.

Rowe was honored for his investigation of a robbery on May 27 near a 24-hour restaurant in Kailua-Kona. An unknown man brandishing a weapon approached two victims, assaulted one of them, threatened the other, stole personal property from both and then fled from the area. The assault victim had to be hospitalized because of injuries from the attack.

Investigation led to the identity of the suspect and a description of the vehicle he used to flee the scene of the crime. Officer Rowe located the vehicle but the suspect was no longer in it. It was recovered as evidence and a search warrant led to the recovery of the weapon used in the assault.

The next day, detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section located and arrested the suspect.

As a result of Officer Rowe’s investigative efforts, the suspect was charged with numerous crimes, including robbery, theft, assault and drug offenses.

As “Officer of the Month,” Rowe is eligible to become “Officer of the Year.”

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawaiʻi.
