MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Big Island police are seeking witnesses to a one-car crash just outside Papaikou on September 16, 2006.

A 25-year-old Pepeekeo man died from injuries he sustained after being ejected from the car on the Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) .1 mile north of the 8-mile marker. The victim was identified as Aaron Alvarez, a rear-seat passenger in the 1993 Nissan 4-door sedan, which was headed south when it ran off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned shortly before 7 p.m.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash or who came upon the crash scene immediately afterward to call Officer Robert Pauole at 961-8119.
