Big Island police have charged a 27-year-old man for an alleged robbery that occurred Monday (April 11, 2005) in the Hilo Bayfront area.

At 11 p.m. Wednesday, East Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section detectives charged Edward J. Salas of Hilo with second-degree robbery. Salas is being held in the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $5,000 bail.

The 51-year-old male victim told police that the suspect and a female companion lured him to a secluded and abandoned house. Once there, they restrained him and took his wallet containing an undisclosed amount of cash, then left him without further harm.

The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries sustained in the attack and released.

The second suspect is still being sought as police continue their investigation.
