MEDIA RELEASE

The 10th annual Police Commemorative Softball Tournament will be held May 19-21, 2000, at Gilbert Carvalho Park in Hilo.

The first 10 teams to sign up will be eligible to play in the tournament.

The deadline for signing up is May 15, 2000, and those interested are urged to register their team as early as possible. The entry fee is $150 per team.

To register a team, call Officer John “Keone” Rodrigues at 961-2213 and leave a message.

Proceeds from tournament will be used to fund the construction of a memorial for police officers who have been killed in the line of duty in the State of Hawaii and to provide annual scholarships for students enrolled in the Administration of Justice programs at UH-Hilo and Hilo Community College.

The softball tournament is named in honor of Hilo Police Officer Kenneth K. Keliipio, who died in a 1997 traffic accident while he was trying to help a stranded motorist.
