The Hawaii Police Department responded to a possible drowning Tuesday (April 7) in South Kona.

The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Donna Moran of Tecumseh, Michigan.

At 1:13 p.m., police received a report that a woman was in distress in the water off Pebble Beach and had cried out for help.

When officers arrived at the scene, Fire Department personnel were attempting cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The woman was later pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. The case has been classified as a coroner’s inquest.
