MEDIA RELEASE

Puna police are warning residents to be on the alert for a scam involving a local man who is fraudulently soliciting money for various organizations.

Police said a man identifying himself as “Dan” or “Danny” is asking people to donate cash, saying he is raising funds for “Danny’s Dojo,” the Pahoa High School Kickboxing Club or the Pahoa Gymnasium.

The suspect is described as a Filipino male, about 5-feet-8 with a medium build and with a tattoo on his right shoulder. He is driving a beige Buick four-door sedan.

Police said the suspect sometimes has a young child with him.

Anyone who has questions about the scam is asked to call Puna police at 966-5835.
