Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying whoever was responsible for a robbery off Rainbow Drive in Hilo on Wednesday (July 16).

At approximately 3:40 p.m., South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at Rainbow Falls Park.

A family visiting from California was confronted by an unknown local male who grabbed the husband’s bag and ran to a vehicle waiting nearby. The vehicle with occupants was last seen driving toward Hilo Medical Center on Waianuenue Avenue.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call Officer Jeremy Kubojiri at 961-2213 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
