Police are seeking the public’s help in apprehending the person or persons responsible for firing a gun Wednesday night (March 18, 1999) in the Kaumana City subdivision of Hilo.

At about 7:36 p.m., police received a call about gunshots being fired in the subdivision. Officers responding to the call were unable to locate anything significant, although they did talk to a resident who said she had heard a round srike her roof.

Later, about 8:48 p.m., police received a second call about gunshots being fired in the subdivision.

This time, a woman resident said she checked on her 4 1/2-month-old son and found a bullet hole in the bedroom window. Officers determined that the bullet had entered the east bedroom window that exited the north window. The baby was sleeping in a crib about eight feet from where the round entered the bedroom.

Officers were unable to find suspects in the case, which has been classified as reckless endangering.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incidents.

Anyone with information about the incidents or those responsible is asked to call Hilo Patrol at 935-3311.
