MEDIA RELEASE

Police are reminding motorists that one-way traffic patterns on Waianuenue Avenue will go into effect early next month because Hilo Intermediate School has changed its curriculum to a full-year calendar.

Starting August 2, 1999, the beginning of Hilo Intermediate’s school year, traffic on Waianuenue below Komohana Street will be one-way makai from 7:15 to 8 a.m. on school days.

Motorists should also be aware that Keaau High School and Haaheo Elementary School are also changing to full school years, which will affect the flow of traffic near the schools. For Kea’au High School, the school year starts August 2, 1999; for Ha’aheo Elementary School, it starts July 28, 1999.

Other Big Island schools will follow the regular school year, which begins August 23, 1999.
