Media Release

The Hawai’i Police Department will join forces with the Fire Department and the Department of Education on Tuesday, May 4, for a dramatic anti-drunk-driving event called “Shattered Dreams” presented by Waiākea High School.

Motorists and area residents who see emergency crews in the area should know that the scene is only a staged crash to educate high school students about the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The program simulates a traffic crash, including emergency response and the accident’s effect on those involved.

The mock traffic accident will be at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Lama Street. Police will barricade the section of Railroad Avenue between Makalika Street and East Māmaki Street and the section of Lama Street between Awa Street and Railroad Avenue.

The closures will last from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
