Six Arrested in Hilo Liquor Sweep 06/05/00

A total of six persons were arrested for 12 offenses over the weekend in a crackdown on underage and public drinking in Hilo.

A special crime reduction unit comprised of Juvenile Aid officers arrested four adults on four counts of liquor law violations and two drug offenses. The drug offenses were for possession of marijuana and having drug paraphernalia.

In addition two juveniles were arrested on four counts of drinking violations.

Officers assigned to the crime reduction unit made the arrests on Friday and Saturday (June 3 and 4, 2000) during a sweep of the Banyan Drive, Reeds Bay, Honolii, Puhi Bay and Edith Kanakaole Stadium areas.

The sweep was part of an ongoing operation conducted to keep public places safe for the public to enjoy.

Police are reminding residents that drinking in public places is illegal and that persons under the age of 21 may not purchase or possess alcoholic beverages in any public place.
