MEDIA RELEASE

A Waimea man has been charged with a variety of offenses stemming from a domestic argument that occurred last month.

Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives Thursday (July 9, 1999) charged Warren K. Horn, 45, with abuse of family or household member, first-degree terroristic threatening, having no permit to acquire a firearm, illegal place to keep firearm, having no mandatory firearm registration and prohibited ownership of a firearm.

The suspect’s wife, 42, called police on Friday, July 2, 1999, and told them her husband abused and threatened her with a handgun on Sunday, June 27, 1999, in the Puako and Kawaihae areas of South Kohala.

She told police her husband struck her with the handgun, then struck with the back of his hand, injuring her eye, but she didn’t request medical treatment.

After the incident, the woman fled to a women’s shelter and was at first afraid to report the abuse.

Horn is being held in the Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $12,000 bail. He is due to appear in Hilo District Court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
