A fire Sunday night (September 20, 1999) destroyed the South Point Bar and Restaurant in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

Responding to a 10:03 p.m. call, Ka’u police and fire personnel arrived to find the wooden building fully engulfed in flames. The business was closed, and no one was in the building at the time of the fire.

The building burned to the ground, and damages to it and its contents were estimated at $140,000.

The South Point Bar and Restaurant is located off Hawaii Belt Road between Tiki Lane and King Kamehameha Boulevard in the isolated Ka’u subdivision.

Fire and police personnel are continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze.
