Big Island police arrested a 22-year-old Kona man for attempted murder after he allegedly shot another male Sunday (April 11, 2004) with a spear gun in the abdomen.

The suspect, identified as Markdean (cq) Kalalau, of a Kauhola Street address in the Kaloko Industrial Park, turned himself in to police at the Kona police station at 9:15 p.m. Monday.

Kalalau has not been charged and is currently being held in police custody pending further investigation.

The victim, identified as Wendell Kahaialii, 28, of no permanent address, suffered serious injury and remains in guarded condition at the Kona Community Hospital.
