Kona police have charged a 20-year-old North Kohala man with a number of offenses stemming from the shooting of his girlfriend Saturday (September 13, 2003).

At 4 p.m. Monday, detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit of the West Hawaii Juvenile Aid Section charged Alexander Pale, of a Kapaau address, with two counts of second-degree assault, three counts of terroristic threatening, one count of abuse of a family or household member, one count of second-degree reckless endangering, one count of theft of a firearm and seven other firearms offenses.

Police also reclassified the case from attempted murder to second-degree assault.

Pale is being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $36,500 bail.

Responding to a 3:18 p.m. call Saturday, North Kohala patrol officers determined that a 20-year-old female had been admitted to the North Kohala Community Hospital with two gunshot wounds, one in her right shoulder and one in right foot. Hospital personnel treated the victim’s wounds and later released her. Police arrested the suspect at the hospital.

Officers later recovered two .22-caliber firearms from the victim’s residence on Union Mill Road.
