Suspect charged with robbery in lychee theft 05-21-03

A 23-year-old Puna man was charged with robbery for allegedly stealing lychee from a farm in Pepeekeo.

The suspect, identified as Michael Conrad Fuerte, of a Pepeekeo address, was charged at 3 p.m. Wednesday (May 21, 2003) with two counts of second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $150,000.

Fuerte was arrested Tuesday in a theft that occurred shortly before noon Sunday at a lychee farm in Pepeekeo.

The owners of the farm caught the suspect in the act and were injured slightly as the suspect was escaping.

The suspect is being held in the Hilo police cellblock pending arraignment in District Court.
