MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police are investigating two suspicious house fires in the Ainaloa subdivision in Puna.

On October 31, 2006, at about 12:36 a.m., personnel from the Hawaii Fire Department and Puna police responded to a reported structure fire at a home under construction on Jewel Road.

Firefighters extinguished the fire on the home’s lower level. Fire inspectors determined that the fire was suspicious. As a result, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Section were called to investigate.

On November 6, 2006, at about 12:02 a.m. fire and police personnel responded to a fire at the same location. Upon their arrival, they discovered the structure engulfed in flames. Fire personnel extinguished the fire, which they determined was again suspicious.

No one was injured in either fire but the structure was considered a total loss. The estimated financial damages have yet to be determined.

Police ask anyone with information about either fire to call Detective Darren Horio at 961-2385 of the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.
