Two Arrested in Major Heroin Bust 03-09-01

Hilo Vice Section and state and federal officers seized several pounds of heroin and other drugs and arrested two Mexican nationals in a major drug raid Thursday (March 8, 2001) on a home in Fern Forest, Puna.

Assisted by Hilo Criminal Investigation Unit officers, state narcotics agents and U.S. Customs, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Internal Revenue Service and Drug Enforcement Agency personnel, police also apprehended two other Mexican men who were detained by the INS for deportation.

Arrested were Noel Nunez-Cedano, 23, and Martin Soria-Garcia, 21, both of Fern Forest. Nunez-Cedano and Soria-Garcia will be transported to Oahu for federal prosecution, and the case was turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

During the raid, police seized 4.08 pounds of heroin, 12.5 grams of cocaine and various drug paraphernalia relating to the distribution of heroin.

Also seized for forfeiture was about $2,600 in cash.
