MEDIA RELEASE

Puna police and firefighters found an unidentified body Wednesday (January 14, 2004) in the smoldering remains of a house that was destroyed by fire in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Responding to an 8:15 a.m. call from neighbors, police and firefighters arrived to find the house totally engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the blaze, they found the charred body of a victim inside. The body was so badly burned, the sex of the victim could not be immediately determined.

Police have ordered an autopsy Friday morning to determine identity of the victim and the exact cause of death.

The house was completely destroyed by fire.
