A 51-year-old California man was found floating face down in the ocean Sunday (June 22, 2003) about 50 yards offshore of Pololu Valley, North Kohala.

The victim, identified as Kurt Edward Maki, of Buena Park, California, was taken to the North Kohala Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:41 p.m. Sunday.

Police are continuing an investigation into the death and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
