A 29-year-old Hilo man died Sunday of injuries sustained from a fall in the upper Piihonua area of Hilo.

At 11:25 p.m., South Hilo patrol officers and Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a male subject who jumped off a ledge at Pe’epe’e Falls. Witnesses at the scene reported that the victim jumped and landed on a rock outcrop approximately 70-80 feet below.

Hawaii County Fire Department personnel using a rescue helicopter recovered the victim’s body, which was transported to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:36 p.m.

The victim was positively identified as Jensen Adam Stein of a Hilo address.

Police do not suspect foul play and have classified the case as a Coroner’s Inquest.
