MEDIA RELEASE

Kona police have arrested a 43-year-old woman for theft after she allegedly fraudulently purchased two new vehicles from a Kailua-Kona automobile dealership.

The suspect, April Kealamakia, of Waimea, is being held in the Kona police cellblock pending further investigation by West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section detectives.

She allegedly purchased the two vehicles — a blue 2005 Ford Expedition SUV and a silver 2005 Ford F350 pickup truck — with a fraudulent pre-authorized transfer order (bill of exchange) and other financial documents. The vehicles were valued at $91,484.

Police have recovered the Ford Expedition and are looking for the Ford F350 pickup truck, which has temporary license plates.

Anyone who sees the pickup truck or has information about it is asked to call Detective Nancy Haitsuka of the CIS at 326-4646, Ext. 281, or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
