A 15-year-old boy visiting from Japan died Thursday (August 28, 2003) after a snorkeling accident in Waikoloa.

The victim was identified as Yasumari Kurimoto, the son of Hitoshi and Maymi Kuromoto of Mieken, Japan.

Kurimoto was found unconscious in six to eight feet of water about 1 p.m. Thursday (August 20, 2003) in the Hilton Waikoloa Village lagoon where he had been snorkeling. During efforts to revive him, the boy started breathing again and was taken to the North Kohala Community Hospital, then flown to the Kapiolani Children’s Hospital in Honolulu, where he later died without regaining consciousness.
