JULY 24, 2001

A 15-year-old male visitor from Connecticut reported Monday (July 23, 2001) that he was robbed of $50 in currency and travelers’ checks at LuLu’s Restaurant in Kailua-Kona.

The juvenile told police that about 9:10 p.m., he was having a soda and watching some local males playing pool at the restaurant. After a short conversation with several males in the restaurant, he followed one of them, who promised to show him something, into the restroom. A second suspect waiting in the bathroom pushed the victim against the wall, took the victim’s wallet out of his pocket and removed its contents.

The victim said the suspect who took his wallet warned him he would be killed if he told anyone about the incident. The suspects were last seen leaving the area in a gray, older model Toyota sedan with louvers in the back window and an unknown license plate.

The victim described both suspects as local males in their early 20s.

He described the suspect who lured him into the bathroom as being about 5-feet-8 in height with a slender build, having short dark hair and wearing a white shirt over a white tank top. He said the suspect was wearing a plain gold ring on his right middle finger.

He described the suspect who shoved and threaten him as being about 5-feet-1 with a muscular build, being bald and having an unknown tattoo on the right side of his neck. He said the suspect was wearing a purple and blue tank top and beige shorts.

The case has been turned over to the Kona Criminal Investigation Section for further investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Kona CIS at 326-4207 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
