Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a small structure fire that occurred early Sunday morning, January 7, 2024, in Hōlualoa.

At 3:46 a.m., Kona patrol officers responded to the 76-6000 block of Māmalahoa Highway for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, officers observed a resident of the property attempting to put out the fire with a garden hose.

It was determined that the structure was uninhabited and that a 20-foot by 20-foot section was burnt. Hawai‘i Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and extinguished the remnants of the fire. It is undetermined how the fire started. No injuries were reported and based on the condition of the structure, there was no assessment of the damages.
