Hawai‘i Island police have charged 41-year-old Matthew B. Cummings of Captain Cook with two counts of promoting a dangerous drug in the first degree, and one count each of promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree, promotion of a detrimental drug in the second degree, forgery in the first degree, and drug paraphernalia. 

The charges against Cummings stem from multiple search warrants served Wednesday, September 28, 2022, on a property located in the 84-1100 block of Bruner Road by investigators from the Area II Vice and Criminal Investigation Sections.    

During the search, investigators recovered nearly 51 grams of methamphetamine, 140 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and equipment related to the production of counterfeit federal reserve notes along with several counterfeit $100 bills. Investigators have initiated a joint investigation with the United States Secret Service in response to the recovered counterfeit currency.

Cummings bail was set at $27,525. He has since posted bail and is scheduled for his initial court appearance on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Kona District Court.
