Once again across Hawai’i County traditional Thanksgiving travel plans may be changing because of the public health emergency, but that’s “No Excuse” to change safe driving practices.

For those getting on the road this Thanksgiving, the Hawai’i Police Department wants you to get to where you’re going safely. Two easy ways to help accomplish that: buckle up and don’t drive after consuming anything that could impair your ability to drive safely. The reality is that HPD Officers have been stopping, issuing citations and arresting drivers making risky decisions behind the wheel since the public emergency began.

Tomorrow the Hawai’i Police Department will hold a Holiday traffic safety sign waiving event in Hilo on Kanoelehua Avenue near the Walmart parking lot starting at 4:00 pm.  We are doing this as a reminder to all people to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.  Our Officers will be out looking for unsafe drivers and will enforce the law strictly with anyone found to be driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance.

Far too many people on our Island have been impacted by vehicle crashes and we need your help to spread the word to family and friends.  BUCKLE UP. EVERY TRIP. EVERY TIME.  &  BUZZED DRIVING IS DRUNK DRIVING

This is not new information; there are “No Excuses Hawai’i.”  We wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend.
