During the week of February 19, through February 25, 2024, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Five of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 155 DUI arrests compared with 156 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.64 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 135 major crashes so far this year, compared with 145 during the same time last year, a decrease of 6.9 percent.
To date, there were six fatal crashes, resulting in six fatalities, compared with three fatal crashes, resulting in four fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths) for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 100 percent for fatal crashes and 50 percent for fatalities.
In 2024, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
