Chief Lawrence Mahuna has authorized a 21-gun salute for Tuesday, May 16, 2006, during the funeral of a police officer.

Officer Eric Cerezo died May 16 at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu. The 21-gun salute will take place at the conclusion of Cerezo’s funeral Mass, which is scheduled for Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

A police detail will fire blanks during the the three-to-five minute burst of gunfire.

Creezo, joined the department on Decemer 16, 1999. He was most recently assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Unit in Kona.
