DUI stats 05-15-06

During the week of May 9-May 15, 2006, Big Island police arrested 14 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been a total of 405 DUI arrests, compared with a revised total of 344 during the same period last year, an increase of 18 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 945 major accidents so far this year, compared with a revised total of 899 during the same period last year, an increase of 5 percent.

There has been a total of 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared with 15 for the same period last year, a decrease of 7 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
