Hawai‘i Island police have identified the body that was discovered on the shoreline below the Hakalau Bridge on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, as 23-year-old Ron Jon Cacho Pira, of Honoka‘a.

According to the forensic pathologist who performed an autopsy on the morning of Friday, February 25, there were no signs of foul play. The full autopsy report is pending toxicology results.

Responding to the area shortly before 10:00 a.m. on the 23rd, police and fire personnel located the body on the rocks on the north side of the stream. Area I Criminal Investigation Section personnel responded to the scene and are continuing this investigation, which is classified as a coroner’s inquest.
