Hawai‘i Island police have arrested and charged 54-year-old Arvil Reed of Riverside, California, for second-degree attempted murder and an array of other offenses stemming from a domestic type incident that took place at a hotel on Banyan Drive in Hilo on Friday, March 4, 2022.

South Hilo Patrol officers responded to the hotel shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Friday after a 45-year-old female friend of Reed reported that he had struck her with a firearm and threatened to kill her while in their shared room. Arriving officers located Reed in front of the hotel and he was arrested without incident. The woman was treated at the scene by fire rescue but refused to be transported to the Hilo Medical Center for further treatment.

After conferring with Hawai‘i County Prosecutors on Sunday afternoon, March 6, detectives charged Reed with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree terroristic threatening, kidnapping, two counts of second degree assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of ownership prohibited, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. His bail was set at $680,000.

Reed remains in police custody pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2022, in Hilo District Court.
