Kona Vice Section officers arrested a 74-year-old man Wednesday (August 1, 2001) for alleged commercial promotion of marijuana.

Acting at 5:17 p.m. on a search warrant on a residence in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision of Ka’u, the officers also uprooted 756 marijuana plants, ranging in height from seedlings to 6 feet, and confiscated 5.25 pounds of dried marijuana and 9.28 ounces of marijuana seeds.

The officers also encountered a chemical laboratory set up at the residence.

They were assisted by the Hawaii Army National Guard and Department of Land and Natural Resources in locating the marijuana.

The suspect is being held at the Kona police cellblock pending further investigation.

Arresting officers reported finding no guns or booby traps during the bust.
