Hawai‘i Island police detectives are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred in Ocean View on Friday, August 20, 2021.

Around 7: 30 p.m. Friday evening, Ka‘u patrol officers responded to a residence on Sea Breeze Parkway after receiving numerous calls for an active domestic disturbance between a man and a woman. Upon arrival, officers observed the victim, a 36-year-old male, with an apparent stab wound to his upper left chest. The victim reported that he was stabbed by his neighbor, a 68-year-old man. The 36-year-old male was immediately transported to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition.

During the course of this investigation, detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section determined that the 68-year-old man, upon hearing the domestic disturbance and a woman’s voice in distress, went to investigate and intervened in the domestic incident. A physical altercation ensued, which led to the 68-year-old man being struck in the head with a blunt object and the 36-year-old man being stabbed.

The stabbing victim is currently listed in stable condition and the 68-year-old man declined medical attention.

Detectives are continuing this investigation and are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to contact Detective Donovan Kohara of the Area II Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 326-4646 ext. 238 or email at donovan.kohara@hawaiicounty.gov or call the police department’s non-emergency number at (808) 935-3311.
