Hawaiʻi Island police have charged 44-year-old Brandan Patrick Nicholson of Kailua-Kona with robbery and theft as a result of their investigation into a robbery at a financial institution in Kailua-Kona on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

At 3:24 p.m., Kona patrol officers responded to a report of an active robbery at a bank in the 75-5600 block of Palani Road in Kailua-Kona. After further investigation, including interviewing witnesses and reviewing video surveillance, police identified the suspect as Nicholson. He was located nearby and arrested at 4:37 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

The Area II Criminal Investigation Section continued the investigation and on Friday, August 30, recovered more than more than $2,800 in US currency after executing a search warrant on a backpack Nicholson had in his possession during the incident.

Later that same day after conferring with the County Prosecutor’s Office, police charged Nicholson with:

  • Second-degree robbery
  • Second-degree theft
  • an outstanding bench warrant

His total bail was set at $125,000.
