9-05-23 (Update) Hale Nani Furlough Inmate Back in Custody

Hawai‘i Island police report that on Tuesday evening, September 5, 2023, at 7:05 p.m., Mark Gordon Kahalewai, turned himself in to police. Kahalewai had been sought by police since Friday afternoon, September 1, 2023, when he failed to return to the Hale Nani Correction Facility in Hilo after being granted temporary furlough release.

Kahalewai will be processed by police, and released back to the custody of the Department of Public Safety at the Hawai’i Community Correctional Center (HCCC).
