9-22-22 Investigation Continues for Missing Puna Man

Hawai’i Island Police are renewing their request for the public’s assistance in locating 47-year-old Derek Lee Kalani Aiona, who was reported missing in August 2020. He is believed to reside in the Puna district; however, he has no known permanent address.

Aiona is described as 5-feet-8-inches tall, 220 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes.

Police have interviewed witnesses who report they have recently been in contact with Aiona, and that he is well; however, that he is avoiding police contact. Aiona also has an outstanding electronic traffic warrant issued in December 2020.  

Police ask anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Aiona to call the police department’s non-emergency number at (808) 935-3311, or Detective Blaine Morishita of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 961-2385 or email at Blaine.Morishita@hawaiicounty.gov.
