Adult female reports sexual assault, robbery in Hilo 09-26-02

Police are looking for a suspect who sexually assaulted and robbed an adult female Wednesday morning (September 25, 2002) in an apartment in the Waiakea Houselots area.

Responding to a 5:36 a.m. report of a break-in Wednesday, Hilo patrol officers determined that an adult female had been awakened in her apartment by an unknown male who sexually assaulted her.

The victim said that when the suspect left, he took a small maroon, flower-patterned backpack that contained a small amount of cash and her medical cards.

The victim described the suspect as possibly being a Caucasian of an unknown age, having a slim build and being 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-7 in height. The suspect also may have been wearing a light-colored tank top.

Anyone with information about the break-in or the suspect is asked to call Detective Randal Ishii of the Hilo Juvenile Aid Section at 961-2278 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property.
