MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE 2

Police have reopened the entire portion of Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) in North Kohala that had been closed because of a brush fire.

A spokesman said that about 2:45 p.m. the entire highway had been reopened to traffic.

Police had closed about eight miles of the highway about 6 a.m. Tuesday (July 12, 2005) after discovering a raging brush fire in the vicinity of Lapakahi State Historical Park.

The road was closed between the seven-mile marker near the Kohala Estates and the 15-mile marker by Mahukona Beach Road.

Firefighters remained at the scene to fight the brush fire and to make sure it doesn’t spread.
