Alleged Victim Found to Be Burglar 09-24-01

After responding to a call about a fight, Hilo police arrested two men, but found out later during an investigation that the victim had been caught burglarizing a home and threatening its occupants.

Police responded to a 10:46 p.m. call Sunday (September 23, 2001) reporting a fight at a Kumukoa Street address.

On arrival, officers found three adult males. One of the men said the other two had attacked him with baseball bats.

Police arrested the two alleged assailants, 48 and 39, for assault. Rescue personnel then took the victim, 49, to the Hilo Medical Center for treatment.

On further investigation, however, police discovered that that the reported victim had burglarized a residence on Kumukoa Street and had threatened its occupants with a knife. In addition, they found he had allegedly damaged property within the residence, and on exiting the residence, he had been confronted by the other two men.

Police have initiated two burglary and five terroristic threatening complaints against the burglary suspect. They and are continuing the investigation.
