MEDIA RELEASE

Acting on complaints from residents, Kona police Friday (April 4, 2003) arrested five persons involved in possible drug activity at a Kailua-Kona apartment.

Arrested were three females, ages 42, 41 and 16, and two males, ages 27 and 18. The 42-year-old female suspect was of a Honaunau, South Kona, address, and the rest were of an address at the apartment building. The juvenile was released to her mother’s custody, and the rest were released pending further investigation.

Police had received numerous complaints from other tenants of possible drug and prostitution activity at the apartment building. Within a week, patrol officers had responded to complaints of fights, loud noise, harassment, a female with a knife in the parking lot and criminal property damage.

Obtaining a search warrant, Kona Vice Section officers searched the apartment and recovered .2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, cocaine residue, marijuana residue and drug paraphernalia.

Detectives initiated 12 cases — four for promotion of dangerous drugs, three for promotion of a detrimental drug, four for illegal possession of drug paraphernalia and one for protective custody of the juvenile.
