MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

The Hawaii County Police Department’s D.A.R.E. officers have changed the hours for a Halloween Festival to be held on Sunday, October 28, 2001, in Hilo’s Lincoln Park.

The festival hours, originally set for 4 to 7 p.m., have been changed to 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dubbed the D.A.R.E. Halloween Festival in the Park 2001, the event will feature games, contests, food, entertainment and Halloween safety tips for Big Island kids and their parents.

Activities include games, a Halloween costume parade, a Safety Kids Puppet Show, a Party Bouncer and contests. Food and beverages will be available at the D.A.R.E Diner.

Scheduled to make special appearances are Daren, the worldwide mascot for D.A.R.E.; Hoppy, the Big Island’s own D.A.R.E. mascot; and McGruff.

To make parking easier, a free shuttle will run between Lincoln Park and the Hilo police station on Kapiolani Street every 15 minutes.
