During the week of February 15, 2016, through February 21, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 155 DUI arrests compared with 133 during the same period last year, an increase of 16.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 183 major accidents so far this year compared with 199 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8 percent.

So far this year, there have been two fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island, resulting in two fatalities compared with two fatal crashes (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in four fatalities during the same period last year. This represents a decrease of 50 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
