DUI stats 04-24-06

APRIL 24, 2006


During the week of April 18-April 24, 2006, Big Island police arrested 18 motorists for drunk driving. Eleven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and one was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been a total of 353 DUI arrests, compared with a revised total of 285 during the same period last year, an increase of 24 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 796 major accidents so far this year, compared with a revised total of 765 during the same period last year, an increase of 4 percent.

There has been a total of 13 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared with 13 for the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
