DUI stats 06-21-07 (posted 06-25-07)

During the week of June 12, 2007, through June 18, 2007, Big Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 608 DUI arrests compared with 539 during the same period last year, an increase of 13 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 975 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,175 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17 percent.

So far this year, there have been 16 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 17 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
