During the week of December 2, 2013, through December 8, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,238 DUI arrests compared with 1,385 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,243 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,375 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 25 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 37 during the same period last year, a decrease of 32.4 percent.

To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (2), or a combination of both (6).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
